Our Day Program – 2018 Schedule

Kids Day Program Ice FishingThe Big Fish and Fry Day Program partners with various organizations and community outreach groups in order to provide the opportunity to do some ice fishing.  Please feel free to contact Big Fish and Fry if you have a group that might be interested in fishing with our program.  There is no cost for our events!

Participants under the age of 14 need to be accompanied by an adult for the day program.

What to Expect

The first thing to do when arriving to the day program is check in at the registration table. From there one of the Big Fish and Fry staff will take you on the lake to a fish house that is already set up. Our staff will explain the strategies being used, and assist to get everything set up. And then it’s time to catch some fish!

Some of the things you will experience…

  • Catching fish on poles
  • Catching fish on tip ups
  • Viewing fish on underwater cameras
  • Learning how to use fish finding sonar equipment
  • Learning to set up a portable ice house, drill holes, set up heater
  • Watching Scotty the Diver scuba dive underneath the ice

While you are more than welcome to bring any of your own ice fishing gear, we will provide everything needed. However, it can get cold walking to and from the houses. This means the only thing you need to remember is to dress super warm! Don’t forget these key items:

  • Hat/Gloves
  • Jacket
  • Boots
  • Snowpants
  • Warm Socks
  • Camera

January Dates/Locations

– Saturday January 20th on Fish Lake Reservoir in Duluth. Fishing with kids and mentors from the program Mentor Duluth.
– Saturday January 27th on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. Fishing with kids and mentors from the program Mentor for Success of the Twin Cities.
– Saturday January 27th on Medicine Lake. Volunteering at the “Holes for Heroes” ice fishing tournament honoring Veterans.

February Dates/Locations

– Thursday February 1st on Rogers Lake in Mendota Heights. Fishing with the 5th grade and Montessori students of Visitation grade school.
– Saturday February 3rd on White Bear Lake”. Volunteering at the “Holes for Heroes” ice fishing tournament honoring Veterans.
– Saturday February 10th on Rogers Lake in Mendota Heights. Fishing with cub scouts of the Twin Cities.
– Sunday February 11th on Big Marine Lake. Volunteering at “TC Walleye Event” for military youth.
– Saturday February 17th on Minnewashta Lake. Fishing with families of Wounded Warrior Project.
– Monday February 19th on Minnewashta Lake. Fishing with campers from Camp Tanadoona of Camp Fire MN.
